Ipad pro usb-c clicking audio with 14.5 and 14.6
Has anyone seen this yet with 14.7?
The usb audio adapter (accessory audio) connections would start clicking every few seconds like a scratched cd. Unplugging and replugging the usb would fix it for a few minutes.
One writer on here with the rather splendid identity LonnieFoodikov suggested it the Apple USB adapter was a headphone only device and didn’t know what to do about the microphone signal on three ring 3.5mm audio jacks and then suggested using a two-ringed headphone only cable into the adapter because that had worked for them.
I tried that and it works, so thank you LonnieFoodikov, but I don’t understand what witchcraft this is because it has apparently also stopped the problem recurring when I reconnected my (better quality) headphones with a three ring 3.5mm plug to the iPad Pro*.
A few days after I stopped the clicking using the headphones without microphone fix, I upgraded to IOS14.7 and have not seen any recurrence (will add here if I do). There was no mention of this in the Release Notes, but only of some fix to AppleMusic abending without warning (which I’ve also seen happen). I’m curious to see if the audio synching problems in Apple Music videos have improved.
*I hope this isn’t something so daft as someone didn’t design the Apple USB-C adapter to cope with microphones on the headphones audio jack. That was standardised decades ago (1960s?)
