My Mum's MacBook Air screen has a black section in the top right hand corner. She tells me she hasn't dropped it. While we were zooming it went completely blank. I logged into her computer remotely using logmein and could see a normal screen (logged in remotely) - whereas she could only see a black screen sitting in front of it. Any ideas?

Could be an issue from Zoom playing up. Try the same actions but from Safe Mode ( Intel CPU - Shift ) immediately at restart. MBA M1 Safe Mode is different - Start up a Mac with Apple silicon in safe mode

Sadly no. That was my first thought but I checked that. When I told her to increase screen brightness I could see the sliding scale of brightness in the remote login but her screen was still black
