Apple Watch Series 2 Keeps shutting off

Not sure why, but I purchased a series 6 and when I went to pick it up, my series 2 shut off for the first time. I didn't like the series 6, so I returned it. Now my series 2 keeps shutting off randomly, even when it has 97% battery. I tried unpairing and paring several times, changes the settings, and it still shuts off randomly. Has anyone had the same issue?

Hi traceyfromwyndmoor,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities! It's certainly not expected that your Watch will shut down randomly, so we'd love to help.

To start, please tell us more about what's going on. What's the version of watchOS installed on your device? This can be found under Settings > General > About on the Watch itself.

Have you had an opportunity to ensure that it's fully updated? If not, please do so now. Here's a guide to help:

Update your Apple Watch - Apple Support

When your Watch shuts down, does it also restart itself automatically, displaying the Apple logo?

Have a great day!

Hi traceyfromwyndmoor,

Thanks so much for confirming. In that case, as this is certainly unexpected behavior and may be occurring after your second workout, we can recommend unpairing and then pairing your Watch back. This process may resolve any software issues. The following guide has detailed instructions:

Unpair and erase your Apple Watch - Apple Support

We're here for you if you've got any questions.

Have a great day!

Hi. We have exactly the same problem . My wife purchased a new Apple Watch series 6 to replace her series 2. The series 6 works fine, the series 2 did work fine (using an iPhone XS Max)… then she gave her series 2 to our daughter who has an iPhone 7 and as soon as it was set up for her, we went for a run and the series 2 kept turning off and cycling back on after 4 mins or so. Sometimes just before it shuts down it shows it flashes the battery signal looking like there is no charge, but there is and once on the charger it shows the battery is charged. I have tried un pairing ( many times) re-setting the phone and starting from a backup ( tried this twice, once using backed up including watch data and once without). Seems crazy how the watch can work perfectly yesterday. The problem seems worse using the workout app, but it’s definitely not the only cause at it shuts down periodically in normal use.
