The Apple TV box should always be signed in (although you can sign out or switch to a different account).
A free trial is available to new subscribers. The standard trial duration for this Channel is 7 days.
If you purchased a new qualifying Apple device recently, then you may be eligible for a longer trial period for Apple TV+.
If you want to redeem that longer trial period, then do so on your new qualifying device.
The subscription is on an account, independent of device, and would be available on any of your devices with that same account.
