Apple Music on Android (Samsung S21 Ultra) uses Mobile Data even when on WiFi
Hi Everyone. I recently got a new Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra) and as I always do with a new phone, I re-installed Apple Music and re-downloaded all my music using the "All Music" playlist that I had created. The download, while taking a long time, completed and everything appeared to be the same as always until recently.
Apple Music seems to now be ignoring the fact that I had turned off all the mobile data allowances in settings. It's not that it was using a little bit of data to validate my subscription, I'm talking I woke up to see a mobile data usage warning that I had set on my phone, and it showed that Apple Music had used almost 4GB of data. I also noticed that over the last two nights, there was a notification indicating that Apple Music was trying to download over 2000+ songs... randomly, in the middle of the night.
I'm not even bothered by the random downloads. I know that licenses can change, or there can be many reasons why songs need to be re-downloaded (although I would question how 2000+ at the same time would in my collection). What bothers me is that my phone is always on wifi, and it seems that these strange nightly downloads end up using my mobile data anyway. After searching online, there appears to be a few people noticing the large amounts of data usage, starting in June of this year (2021).
Does anyone have any thoughts as to why this is happening? As I said, I had turned off all the mobile data settings in the app, and it still ate through a good chunk of my data. I've had no choice but to uninstall Apple Music until I can figure this out. Unfortuantely, I recently changed my plan since I've been working at home and I'm on WiFi nearly 24/7, so I don't have unlimited to let it do what it wants. I appreciate any help/insight anyone can offer.
Thanks,
Jay
