Airpod Max Microphone Sensitivity Issue

My Airpods Max pickup a ton of background sound. People complain that they can hear people in the background better than they can hear me at times. I have seen many unresolved conversations with this same complaint, but no solutions yet.

I have experienced loud background noises while using the Airpods Max with my iPadPro, Macbook, and iPhone. I have experienced this issue while using the phone app, Microsoft Teams, Webex, Google Voice, and other VOIP applications. I have also tested all of these applications across the listed devices using my Airpod Pros and I do not have any issue in identical environments.

I have tried forgetting the Airpod Max and repairing them. I have also tried resetting them to no avail.

These are my favorite headphones, but they sit at home a lot because I can't effectively answer phone calls on them. Any help would be much appreciated!
