key not working, tried usual solutions

Hi,

macbook pro running sierra. o key stopped working & have tried all the steps mentioned online (cleaning underneath, resetting etc) but nothing seems to work. At first, with the key off you could get an o by pressing lightly on the small clear rubber cap under the key but now nothing. Does anyone have any ideas that go further than the usual ones? or know if its possible to set a different key to type o - one rarely used for example?

thanks

thanks. there isn't an actual apple store where I'm based & the authorised dealer wouldn't look at it, wouldn't even look at the key!

Most places will not repair individual key—replacing the entire keyboard to eliminate call backs is the go to way to fix the issue.

Hi,

Try to check your keyboard with Apple Diagnostics if it reports hardware keyboard error(NDK001, NDK003, NDK004).

Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac - Apple Support

If it doesn't help, contact Apple Support or make Genius Bar reservation if your local retail Apple Store is open or find opened your local Apple Authorized Service Provider to be examined your MacBook Pro keyboard there.

thanks. yes, I found that program & discussed with apple yesterday. The issue is that whilst my mb has the keys that are the issue for that programme it was a custom build by apple (13inch instead of the standard 12 inch by then) when they matched specs of an earlier one that was faulty. that situation took years to sort out, involving legal advice etc. & the thought of having a similar experience trying to get them to agree to repair this one isn't exactly exciting!

update; despite me never having had even 2 years of continuous use without issues with this macbook pro (top set replaced in 2019 for example) Apple have refused to repair it under standard consumer protection legislation. Have checked with CAB here & they confirm that they are in breach of consumer protection act. only option is to pay £400+ for an apple repair, find an independent repairer & risk it or take Apple to court.

seriously, for a premium product company Apple have become so frustrating to deal with.
