MacBook dropped WiFi connection now won’t connect to WiFi or iPhone?

My MacBook has always worked fine with regard to WiFi connectivity. However, it recently dropped the WiFi connection and won’t connect to my iPhone (no option for hot spot on drop down menu). Router is fine as I have iPad and iPhone connected to it. What can I do to restore connection?
