Apple Watch Series 3 receiving text notifications but won't display iMessage count in "Messages" complication

After updating my Apple Watch Series 3 to software version 7.6, iMessages are no longer counted in "Messages" complications. Regular text messages are displayed as "X New Messages" but iMessages are not. I'm still receiving the notifications for all texts/iMessage.

Congratulations on getting your series 3 watch to update to watchOS 7.6. Due to insufficient memory on the watch, a lot of people are having problems with the update. That was no small feat.


As to your problem, the first (and simplest) thing to try if something isn’t working right is to restart your Apple Watch and its paired iPhone. If necessary (device not responding), try a forced restart. Both methods can be found here:

If that doesn't help, the next steps would be to unpair and pair your watch again and restore from the backup just created. This should result in no loss of data. It deletes all temp and corrupted files and re-indexes the file system.
