Storage

My sons storage keeps running out. He is almost always at max storage even when he deletes all of his extra photos. It says his storage is mostly apps when he hardly has any apps on the iPhone. Why is this happening?

iPhone XR, iOS 14

Storage: That’s the thing. He doesn’t have many apps. And the only apps he does have show very little space being used. This is why we are confused

Reset to Factory Settings:

One thing to consider is to restore the iPhone to factory settings. Use of this Link: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to Factory Settings - Apple Support. Important - back up first, as mentioned in that link.

Important:

On the iPhone Both Before and After the Reset:

Enable different iCloud settings on your iPhone, so that all is restorable, after the reset...

  1. Go to: Settings
  2. Tap: Your Name (Top Item)
  3. Tap: iCloud
  4. Tap: Contacts (so that it is green in-color)

Why the Error?:

Too much space is being used by the iPhone. So, have him perform the following...

Try Clearing Space:

A. Clear Temporary Internet Files:

Clear your Temporary Internet Files(Cookies & Cache) of Safari:

Also...

B. Clean TV and Music Libraries:

Remove all unneeded files from your TV and Music Libraries. Full-Movies take up 2-4GB typically, and a bunch of those would take up a load of storage, ideally. So, if you have any movies that are not needed, then delete them.

Also..

C. Clear "Other":

Clear the storages named "Other". It basically contains unnecessary files such as caches that are used for system ease of use - all of which gather over time: How to Clear "Other" in your iPhone's Storage - Use Backup - User Tips. Caches would be being used for remembrance of application use.

"We did that 3 weeks ago & it’s already full. We’re going to have to do this every 3 weeks? I have the same phone and have never had this issue on my phone. There has to be a reason behind it"

-------

Try Clearing Caches, First:

Caches keep a record of where an app lost stood, such as the last settings it had. So, rid of the storage named "Other", and then caches would be rid of. Once cleared, perform this factory reset once more. See here: How to Clear "Other" in your iPhone's Storage - Use Backup - User Tips.

As to another workaround, I'm uncertain.
