Stabilization causing render hangups?

Hello all. Running FCPX 10.5.3 on a 3.2ghz 6-core i7 Mac Mini and a similar i9 MBP. In Final Cut Pro, I have projects that won't export without rendering any clip with stabilization turned on. My problem is, when I try to render, the renders often do not complete, and I have to sit there and continually ask it to either 'Render All' or 'Render Selection' (happens in either scenario), which is very time consuming considering many of my projects are more than 2 hours long.

I have background render turned off (should I turn it on? I hate the idea of large render files eating up scratch disk space when not needed).

I only need to apparently render for any clip with stabilization turned on in order to export my projects.

Is there something I can do so when I command FXP to 'Render All', for example, it'll do indeed just that?

Is there another workaround or function I should be trying?

Where did this footage that needs to be stabilized come from? Please open it in QuickTime player and post a screen shot of the Get Info window.

An easy thing to try is resetting the FCP preferences. Hold command and option while launching FCP and choose Delete Preferences. It will open a default Untitled library. Open the library you were working on, set the prefs back to the way you like them and see if there's any improvement.

If there's something unusual or broken about this media, you might try to Optimize one of the problem clips (right-click or control-click and choose Transcode Media...). This will create a large ProRes file so make sure you've got available disk space. Then try the stabilizing this clip in it's own project and see if it will export without rendering.
