why does my widget dictionary in dashboard does not function?

All of the old, unsupported Dashboard widgets are based on JavaScript reaching out to a server at some web destination. If the server is down, permanently disabled, or the dictionary provider now requires a developer account with a key to make the connection, the widget is toast.
