USB scanner canon lide 300 not found anymore in BigSur

Hello,

until a few weeks ago, my scanner Lide 300 works with BigSur without problems. At some point IJ Scan Utility reported that the scanner is no longer found. Image Capture could no longer access the scanner. After removing the scanner from the system settings printer and scanner, I could not add it again. In the macos system information, the scanner is detected on the USB. Canon support is at a loss. Several reboots, and reinstallations of IJ Scan Utility were also unsuccessful. Connecting to other USB ports on the iMac were also unsuccessful. Even a newly created user account could not find the scanner. The scanner works on a PC without any problems.

Any other ideas?

Hi,

Also, the Canon LiDE 300 is mentioned in About AirPrint - Apple Support as one of the few USB-only devices using a driverless technology similar to that used by AirPrint printers, so you should not need a driver in this case. A driver may or may not prevent the scanner from working correctly.

Parts of an AirPrint guide from Canon UK could perhaps be of some interest.

Image Capture does not show me the scanner.

I bought the LIDE 300 because my old LIDE 35 was not compatible with the new macos. Until about 4 to 5 weeks ago, the LIDE 300 worked with BigSur without any problems. In Image Capture and in IJ Scan Utility. I rarely use the scanner, so I can't say exactly when it stopped working.

I am already sure that VueScan works, but I would not have had to buy a new scanner.

Canon support also told me that no driver would be installed by installing IJ Scan Utility, because the driver would be part of macos.

Since neither Image Capture nor IJ Scan Utility works, I suspect a problem or lack of the macos own driver.

The instructions and troubleshooting shown on the Canon UK website were unfortunately not helpful. All the problems described there require that I can add the printer/scanner in the Printers & Scanners system preferences by clicking the plus icon and I can't do that, my LIDE 300 doesn't show up.
