Apple Watch workout GPS keeps dropping out

A couple weeks ago (after 2 years of flawless operation), my workouts (run, bike) recorded on my AW Series 4 WiFi+cellular started to record data incorrectly. Specifically, the gps data keeps dropping out for 5-15 seconds repeatedly throughout my workouts. This causes the app to only record about 75% of the correct distance covered, and my gps maps look a string of sausage links (pics attached). When I use Strava on my AW it does the same thing, but when I record my workouts with the Strava app on my phone they record correctly (I always carry my phone with me).

I can’t think of any settings that would have changed recently in my phone or AW, and I’ve tried disabling and enabling tracking services, but to no avail.

I haven’t been able to find anyone else on the internet that’s having the same problem. Any idea what’s going on here?

Try leaving the phone at home, the watch will use the phone's GPS if it's available,I had this problem once about 4 years ago I left my phone at home so the watch uses it's own GPS and I haven't had a problem since.
