Cannot set up Trust between iphone and imac

After updating to Big Sur on my iMac 5K I cannot access anything on my iPhone 7 Plus because when connected and I press trust on both iMac and iPhone, iMac finder just spins forever and does not generate a trust code to input on the iPhone

Have updated both devices to latest, removed all other peripherals and tried every USB port and nothing works

Hello ourmanflint,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

It sounds like you’re unable to configure your Mac as a trusted computer with your iPhone. We’d like to help.

You mention that when choosing “trust” your Mac never generates a code. Take a look at About the 'Trust This Computer' alert on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, in this case this would be expected behavior. Your Mac would not generate a code as unlocking your connected device and selecting “trust” in the prompt would complete this process.

However, if you are trying to sign into your Apple ID or trying to generate a verification code, take a look at Get a verification code and sign in with two-factor authentication.

Have a nice day.
