Notes needs to be updated—Keep or Delete?

I’m running iOS 14.7.1 on an iPad Pro 10.5. Ever since updating to 14.7, after starting the iPad in the morning, a box pops up that says something like “The app Notes needs to be updated” and asks me to choose Keep or Delete. This is an APPLE App! What’s going on? There is no updated app on the App Store.

When I am asked to choose the “topic” for this question, Notes does not even show up under iOS Applications. Does this mean that it is unsupported?

I believe I have solved this problem.

It turns out that there was ANOTHER app called Notes, not created or maintained by Apple.

Once I deleted this app, which I haven’t used in I can’t recall how long, I have not been plagued with the Keep/Delete question.

The regular Apple Notes application was not affected and continues to work as usual.

We see you’re getting prompted to upgrade notes on your iPad. Let's take a closer look as we do our best to provide some additional insight.

To get started, this prompt is usually related to the upgraded iCloud Notes functions available in newer iPadOS versions. Check these resources for more information and how to do the upgrade by enabling iCloud Notes:

What is iCloud Notes?

We hope this helps get you pointed in the right direction.

Take care.

After checking the recommended references, I found nothing that helped. Each morning, I get the pop-up box that “‘Notes’ needs to be updated…. Keep/Delete”. I made sure I was connected to iCloud in Notes, but this didn’t change anything.

It is impossible to say what version of Notes I have. I am running iOS 14.7.1 on an iPad Pro 10.5, but this has been occurring at least since 14.7. I do not observe the same problem on my iPhone 11. Notes works perfectly fine, and I use it pretty frequently.

It appears that there is some coding that misses this particular iPad. The App Store shows “Open” rather than “Get”, so it thinks I’m running the current version, even if iOS doesn’t.

What’s going on here?
