Cleaning Keychain Access

Hi

Is there any benefit to going through Keychain Access and cleaning it out?

In addition, why are there so many variations store of names and web addresses?

Hello, A Silverstone.

In general practice there's not much benefit to going through Keychain Access and cleaning it out. If you like a tidy house though, feel free to do it. But be careful that you don't delete important passwords and user IDs. Though even if you do you can always reset them at the website.

Why so many variations of web addresses and names? Because often times website access pages change while the host site remains the same. When that happens then you may see a key duplicated in the Keychain. For example, a municipal bill paying site might change their portal page, but the site is still "xxxxx.cityname.gov". So now there's a variant of the original address. Stuff like that happens all the time.
