Display name on Apple mail & gmail address shows "gmail"
I use Apple mail with a gmail address. The display shows "gmail" instead of my name. How do I change "gmail" to my name? (I have Big Sur)
Thanks!!

Couple things come to mind— Mail Preferences>Accounts>Account Information> select the appropriate account— verify your email address is written correctly here: in the drop down list, if not edit it.
Also from the Mail>Window>Previous recipients if it shows up incorrectly , delete it from the list
I've done this multiple times in the past as well as just now trying it again. I can put in my name however it displays on an email as "gMail". So frustrating! Thank you though for your response.

Let me see if I can make this clearer.
I have a 2019 27" Mac and am using Big Sur.
I use gmail on my apple mail. When I send an email to myself and start with typing xxxxx@gmail.com, it automatically puts in my name with (gmail) next to it. When I receive it, it just shows "gmail" and not my name.
Does that make sense?

Now I understand what the issue is. Unfortunately I don't know how to fix it. When you open System Preferences > Internet Accounts, does it display your name or "gmail"?
Control click on "Gmail" in the left column and choose Edit "Gmail". In the window that opens, change the Description field to your name.
I'm on my 2019 27" Mac and there is no "gmail" in the left column.
In Mail. Where do you see "gmail" instead of your name?
Do this, open System Preferences > Internet Accounts. Select your gmail account. Click the "Details" button and change the Description.
Sorry. It seems I'm missing something. Perhaps someone else will have a thought.
You're welcome.
Question: If you log into mail.google.com in a browser and send emails, does it work correctly?
Yes, it works correctly.
