No notification sounds on iPhone lock screen/Apple Watch

Please tell me that Apple is working on a software update that resolves no text notifications when iPhone is locked and Apple Watch wrist detection is on. It's frustrating to keep missing texts simply because I want my Watch to track my activity accurately. When I get a text, my Watch buzzes but there's no sound. My Watch buzzes for a ton of reasons and I need to differentiate between texts and buzzes for other reasons. The only workaround is to keep iPhone unlocked which is not only un-secure but since the lock feature has been around, it's become second nature to lock it manually. There have been a ton of updates since this issue began and none of them address it. Does anyone know what gives? My phone is not on DND, nor is it on silent. It can't be that difficult to come up with a solution for people who don't give AF about no text sounds and people who do. Thank you!
