MacbookPro to ethernet connectivity

I need to connect my macbook pro directly to an ATT modem (BGW210) via an ethernet cable. I've connected one end of the Ethernet cable to the yellow ethernet port on the back of the modem and the other to my laptop using a USB-C/Ethernet adapter. Still no signal.....

What to do?

Try a different Ethernet dongle.

There are some BGW210 models (e.g. BGW210-700) which provide Wi-Fi, so that might be an alternate connection path.

I see the AT&T documentation for a BGW210 Wi-Fi that lists WPA, which is very old and known insecure. Maybe the box can be re-configured to provide WPA2 AES, which is considered better than WPA.

Then failing that, contact the ISP, or whoever is supporting the modem.

If it’s AT&T U-verse, well, that tends to be one of the weirder ISP network services around.
