Apple TV+ content has poor quality, freezes, buffers all the time

After spotty performance of Apple TV+ content through our TCL TV's Roku Apple TV app, we decided to try a new Apple TV 4K. The problems are still there -- episodes of Ted Lasso and Schmigadoon both struggled through, frequently bumping down to lower resolutions, skipping around, and freezing. The Apple TV is connected via ethernet to a fast connection, and no other channels ever have any trouble streaming 4K content. Is there a throttling problem with Spectrum, or possibly degraded Apple services (the status page says everything's fine)? We're on the brink of returning the device and cancelling our subscription.

Thank you! The solution from akinwande225 did absolutely work. Toggle the setting for “Limit Playback to SD” to ON. All freezing, skipping, jumping, (and out-of-synch subtitles/captions) are gone with no noticeable picture quality loss. Everything plays as it should. Content was previously unwatchable, especially foreign language tv and films where captions appeared too late or were skipped completely. I’ll still probably cancel after the trial period but this will get me through the three months.

So I have a smart Samsung TV and pay the 5.00 a month for the appletv app content. I get the same problems as the rest of you. Episodes freeze up and then spin and eventually go to a grey screen that says video cannot be loaded there is a problem with the network. So I go and check my network and everything is good. I check Netflix, Prime Video, Idmb tv, you name it all work great. This has been going on since I got the appletv service about 2 months ago. And I am paying for this misery. They have good shows, but I have really about had enough of the problems.

Similar problem, been experiencing for a few months now. Roku TV with the Apple TV + app, no streaming issues with any other service except Apple TV app. Fast internet, strong signal, etc. Impossible to watch any content on Apple TV app on the Roku TV. Watch on phone or ipad, no issues at all, same WiFi signal. Apple needs to correct this. Rebooted router, factory reset TV and reinstalled the apps, software update, nothing works to improve the Apple TV buffering issues.

I’m having the same problem as everyone on this thread. Roku, Hulu, Netflix all perfect. Apple TV plays about 1 hr and then starts buffering. I have tried the recommended restart and resets to router. Sometimes I get it to work for a few more minutes but ultimately back to buffering. Very frustrating and making Apple TV useless. Will follow thread to see if any solutions.

Almost the same setup and situation here, except we’re on 1gig up/down Fiber and using Ubiquiti gear.

This problem is completely nuts. Why it hasn’t been sorted out yet is beyond me.

We avoid watching Apple TV+ content, and rentals from Apple now. Wish it could be fixed.

Also tried every single thing mentioned in this thread and then some. All to no avail.

Wonder when (if ever) this will be addressed.

I just got Apple TV with 3 months for free after buying a laptop for $4,000 - the content, user interface and streaming quality is so bad. Click on "Watch now" to find the titles I repeatedly click on are 'available in April (it's Feb) I mean what is it that Apple just don't understand about the english language there? And virtually all of the half decent titles are on +... like **** am I going to sign up for that. And here in Australia they have listings for things that are on other steaming services which you can rent for the price of the month's subscription service for said streaming service! lol - I will be cancelling my subscription long before the 3 months run out. Utter crap!

Same exact issue as many have described, which we've been experiencing for some time. Roku stick with the Apple TV + app (LG TV, though I can't imagine that the TV matters), no streaming issues with any other service (Netflix, Amazon Prime, PBS) except Apple TV+ app. I tried resetting the app and unplugging the Roku stick; neither helped at all. One thing that's weird -- some shows are consistently worse than others, which suggests it's something about the stream that's specific to each show. For example, it happens on Suspicion, but it's not terrible; in contrast, The Shrink Next Door and The After Party are unwatchable. (Grrrr.)

Does anyone know if there's a customer service number specific to Apple TV+ (not the Apple TV device)? Thanks.

I'm having problems with apple tv+ across the board. My Roku can play most things but never the morning show. Always says it's unavailable. Tried using it on my PC and have tried to use edge, chrome, and Firefox and it will kick me out before I can watch one episode of anything. My roommate has the air tv hardware and he has no problems whatsoever. I'm thinking that Bob air support is just not a priority as I have been having issues ever since I signed up. It's sad because I really like MS :(

I'm in the middle of Slow Horses and each and every episode it freezes, buffers, audio/picture sync is off. I only joined for a month trial because I had heard that there were "issues'. Glad I didn't spend my money. Love Slow Horses, but I'm not confident it's worth all the rebooting, wiggling cables, checking internet connections. Like previous posters, Netflix, iView, Stan, Disney - no problems - but this reminds me of the old days when we used to have to download Movies. Hopeless.
