Question

killall -HUP mDNSResponder "no matching processes found"

I'm having problems with a client's machine. The mail server's IP address changed but I can't get mail to recognise the server (same address, different IP).

So, flush DNS cache?

Trouble is I got a message returned "no matching processes found"

So, why isn't mDNSResponder running, how do I get it to run and how do I flush the DNS cache?

When I run that OMM, I get:

% killall -HUP mDNSResponder
No matching processes belonging to you were found

The key piece being belonging to you.

mDNSResponder runs as a root-level service, therefore requires root (or sudo) level access to kill/restart:

% sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder

Sorry my bad, I did in fact prefix it with sudo.

sudo -HUP killall mDNSResponder
