Recently my macOS got corrupted and upon trying to reboot into recovery mode, all that comes up is the prohibition symbol. I’ve also tried various combinations but they all have the same outcome. Even without any commands when boot up, i get met with the prohibitory symbol. Though the one menu that works is the Start Up Manager.

Try booting into Internet Recovery Mode using Command + Option + R which should bypass the local recovery mode assuming your iMac is capable of Internet Recovery Mode.
