Apple watch notifications

For notification on my apple watch that are mirrored from my iPhone, must lock screen alert in the apps notification alert be selected? Is it possible if i don’t select lock screen alert and only choose notification center? I really wish that notification can be seen on my apple watch with the notification center alert selected only on my iPhone.
