Any ideas?
2010 Mac Desktop was working slow, but still working. Woke up the computer with a wiggle of the mouse and we hear it working, but the screen is completely black. It was fine literally 1 hour ago. Any thoughts?
Based on history, it is probably the graphics hardware. You cannot reset that. On the 2010 iMacs, the video hardware is an actual socketed card and theoretically replaceable. However, working cards for that model—when you can find them—often cost more than a working 2010 iMac is worth on the used computer market. If your cannot do the work yorself, the labor costs could double the cost of repair.
You can try attaching an external monitor. Itf the image is there, you know the problem is not in the graphics card and more likely the display itself, its inverter, or the display cable.

We followed the directions to reset the NVRAM and we were hopeful when Apple C major chord start up sounded twice.
But, still no display. The back of the Mac feels warm as if it has been running.
From what I understood, the SMC is for MBP with a battery. This is a 2010 Mac desktop.
Any other suggestions out there??

At this point we believe the iMac is finished. Now we must figure out a way to back it up to iCloud so we can maintain our photos and music library.

Resetting the SMC also leads to the start up sound without a working display.
