USB-C port not working PLEASE HELP!

I am using a MacBook Pro M1, and seem to have an issue with the second USB-C port.

I can plug any USB-C accessory in to the port and it does not detect.... BUT HERES THE KICKER ....

When I unplug it and turn the accessory over 180 degrees/ flip it and plug it in again it works ?

Tried this with the charging cable, lightning to usb-c and hyper drive, all of them returned the exact same outcome.

my understanding is that usb-c is the same as lightning and doesn't need a specific orientation ?

Please help i'm soo frustrated, seems like I got a dud computer.....

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 12.0

USB-C is not the same as lightning.

The confusion is in the nomenclature.

USB-C is Thunderbolt-3 or later, or USB 3.1 or later.

If there are white and silver striations on the connector, they will not work on the MacBook, and only work on iPhones and older iPads.

Your charger cable that came with your computer should be clear and silvery on the connector on either side with a narrow gap.

Now confusing matters even more is there is a lightning bolt icon on some USB-C cables for data transfer and video support.

This end may go into newer iPads (iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation) or later, iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation) or later, iPad Air (4th generation) or later).

Whereas the older iPad and all recent iPhones only use the connector looks like this:

This end does not go into any Mac.

Hi thanks for your response,

I believe i have been misunderstood from my original post might I clarify further.

Firstly I am aware that the lightning and usb-c ports are different inherently as accessories, what I meant by this is that the actual port seems to be faulty?

so to clarify my issue I can plug any usb accessory into my device in one orientation and it doesn't work then if I rotate the accessory 180 degrees it then works. please see below

As above the same end of the cable works if I put it in and if I flip it around it doesn't ?

this is the same issue with different cables and drives.
