Does anyone else have this problem with their USB-C ports ?

I am using a MacBook Pro M1, and seem to have an issue with the second USB-C port.

I can plug any USB-C accessory in to the port and it does not detect.... BUT HERES THE KICKER ....

When I unplug it and turn the accessory over 180 degrees/ flip it and plug it in again it works ?

Tried this with the charging cable, lightning to usb-c and hyper drive, all of them returned the exact same outcome. also to clarify its the set end just turned over.

my understanding is that usb-c doesn't need a specific orientation ?

Please help i'm soo frustrated, seems like I got a dud computer.....

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 12.0

So it seems that it is possible depending on your conditions that with dust and humidity the one side of the port develops a bit of a layer over the contact point which doesn’t allow the conductor to pass a current.

Took mine in and they used a soft tooth brush with 100% alcohol and that has fixed the issue!

be sure not to use too any liquid other than 100 % alcohol otherwise it will damage the port, best bet is to take it in though as they will know exactly how to clean it !
