Sim Card iPhone 12 Pro

I just received a new iPhone12 Pro from Apple on-line. I did not select the option to have the phone setup with my carrier AT&T. I inserted the SIM card from my iPhone 8 and it appears to work fine. Should I use the SIM card that came with the 12? I read that the new SIM card is required for 5G
