Series 3 charging problem

On 3 occasions my series 3 watch won’t charge. Screen shows red, then green charging symbol then screen goes dark within seconds. Moved to different charger, outlet, plug and cords no luck. Difficult to force reset but after 3 tries finally saw the Apple logo. Then the watch charged. I read previous blogs going back 2 years with same issue. My watch is less than a year old. Seems to happen when my battery is real low which is only occasionally since I usually charge it nightly. Also need to unpair whenever I need to do updates. My watch is paired to an iphone6s. Why am I having this charging and updating issue on the series 3? Very frustrating to have to jump through hoops to get watch to charge. Nearest Apple store is 2 hours away, not an option to get it tested but previous blogs indicate charging problems continue despite Apple geniuses testing and replacing watches. Appreciate any input please.

FWIW, in some cases, unpairing the watch, completely erasing it, then pairing and restoring the backup will resolve the battery draining issue after an update. (Simply unpairing and pairing again may not work.)

Also, some people have found that simply waiting a few days after an update resolves the battery draining problem.

Also, a lot of people are having problems updating a series 3 watch due to insufficient memory. See for example:
