If you click on the Windows icon (usually at the bottom left of your screen) and then on Settings/System/About, a lot of the information will be listed there. (The gear wheel icon is the Settings option.)

For example, that page tells me that my computer has a 2.9 GHz processor and 15.7 GB of usable RAM - more than enough for those two items. Crucially, on that page, it also informs you whether your computer is a 32-bit machine or a 64-bit machine. Look at the screenshot from my machine; the System type will confirm whether yours is a 32 or 64-bit machine. If it's a 32-bit machine, you need to choose the 32-bit option because the 64-bit version will almost certainly give you the message you saw. Don't assume though, you need to check what your machine is.

Alternatively, do you know anyone you can ask who can identify all requirements for you? If not, you may have to try a computer repair shop or the manufacturer of the computer.

Hopefully, you will find that you are simply trying to download an incompatible version from one of these pages, because unless your computer is very old (and was originally running Windows 7), it should be capable of using the current version of iTunes.

But, ultimately, if your machine will not run iTunes (which I find unlikely), then either you just have to live with it or you will need to update your version of Windows, or replace your computer.

In that case you should be able to install the latest version of iTunes. Have a look at this Apple page; iTunes - Apple where you can find more information. Specifically, look under the heading Windows System Requirements, where it lists what is needed. Does your computer have those minimum requirements?

If it does, you can download either the version from Microsoft or Apple. The difference between the two is:

    • the Microsoft Store version will auto-update. You don't need to check for updates. If you want to use this version, click on the Get it from Microsoft logo on that page
    • the Apple version will notify you when an update is available and you will, then have to download it and install that update (using the supplied instructions). If you want to use this version, scroll down the page and select the Looking for other versions / Windows link.

If you're still having issues, post back with details about which step causes a problem and why.

I was looking at the system requirements and I noticed that the requirement for 'architecture" in itunes was 64x86.

I believe you've seen that in the Microsoft Store listing. If the information about your own computer comes from the System Type, you should note that my computer also says 64 & 64 and yet I have iTunes installed.

I think you now have two options:

    1. consult the computer's manufacturer or, failing that, a computer specialist repair shop
    2. try the Apple version and see what happens (because the Apple version does not specifically mention the "architecture"). To find the version from Apple (you would think the two "versions" would be the same thing), go back to the iTunes page I linked to in my previous reply and scroll down below the "get it from Microsoft" logo to the Looking for other versions option:

Somewhere, in the dim recesses of my mind, I think I did have a small issue when I installed iTunes on my computer. I can't quite put my finger on the nature of the problem, but I think I ended up asking my local repair shop to sort it out.

Good luck.

I am not that familiar with the system requirements but when I did try to download itunes it did have a message that I did not meet the requirements. So I am assuming I didn't. I looked up the requirements and I really did not quite understand all the information. There was a long list of my computer information. Do I have to consider all of them or can I narrow it down to just the processor, resolution or sound card? As you can tell I am not computer savy but I am trying to get to the information of which requirement is not compatible with itunes. I will try to find the computer information that shows what is on my computer as far as requirements. Also, what if it's not compatible with itunes. Then what happens?

thanks for your patience
