How to get my photos back after switching iPhones?

You did not tell us, if you still have the old iPhone, and if you have been using iCloud Photos or not, and what kind of backup you have. It really depends on where your photos are - are they stored locally on your old iPhone or have you been using iCloud Photos? Do you still have the old iPhone or have a backup of the old iPhone?

• If you have not been using iCloud Photos
  • and you still have the old iPhone, you can transfer the photos directly from the old iPhone using the QuickStart option, because the photos are on the old iPhone: Use Quick Start to transfer data to a new iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
  • If you no longer have the iPhone, because you traded it in, use the backup of the old iPhone to restore the new iPhone from it. The photos will be included in the backup, if you have not been using iCloud Photos and the photos have been stored locally on the iPhone, as described in the link posted by muguy: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support
• but if you have been using iCloud Photos, neither QuickStart nor the backup can transfer the photos completely, as they are primarily stored in iCloud and only mirrored on the old iPhone (Backup methods for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch – Apple Support (UK)). The iCloud backup of an iPhone or iPad does not include the photos at all, if the device is syncing with iCloud Photos, so you have to recover the photos directly from iCloud. Set up the device with QuickStart or from a device backup, as described above, then sign back into iCloud with the same AppleID as before and enable all iCloud options you have been using before, as described in the link posted by TheLittles (Set up and use iCloud Photos - Apple Support), to sync the iCloud data back to your new device.

What to Do:

Enable Photos in iCloud settings your iPhones.

1. Go Here: Set up and use iCloud Photos - Apple Support
2. Scroll to: Turn on iCloud Photos
3. Proceed from there as necessary.

If you use iCloud photos go to Settings > Photos and enable iCloud photos

Otherwise, you can restore your photos from your backup of your old phone (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204184) or by transferring the information from your old phone to the new one (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201269)
