Big Sur turn off autosave Pages, Numbers, NAS Server – System Preferences General setting not working.

When working on Numbers files and Pages files on the studio server. A Synology NAS. Every few minutes I get this disruptive pop up alert.

====================

The document “insert-name-here.numbers” could not be autosaved. The file has been changed by another application.

Due to these unexpected changes, Numbers may be unable to save your changes. Click Revert to load the changes made by the other application. Click Save Anyway to attempt to overwrite the changes made by the other application. You can also click Save As to attempt to save your changes to a different file.

====================

For the love of all things productive can you please let us turn off auto save! Properly!

We specifically have files on the server so there are not multiple copies floating around on workstations. The server has built-in version history. We don't want nor need multiple copies of multiple versions and we certainly don't want to be interrupted and forced to have them! Gads!

And yes, in System Preferences, under General, "Ask to keep changes when closing documents" has a happy blue tick right next to it. But it makes no absolutely difference to files on the server. It seems to only work for local copies of files.

None of us have any ability to change any of that. It sounds like your file server is misconfigured.
