Cannot get Apple TV 3rd gen to connect to iTunes after 2-factor authentication was turned on

From https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250738930

We have two factor auth turned on and cannot get our AppleTV 3rd gen to connect to iTunes on a 2012 Mac Mini. It worked fine until the two factor auth was turned on. We have tried entering the 6 digit code, but keeps stating that either the pass is wrong or the Apple id is wrong.

We can connect it to icloud, which is the same Apple ID.

Not sure what else to do.

Please help.
Kurt

What if I use two-factor authentication on a device running older software?
If you use two-factor authentication with devices running older OS versions – such as an Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation) – you may be asked to add your six-digit verification code to the end of your password when signing in. Get your verification code from a trusted device running iOS 9 and later or OS X El Capitan and later, or have it sent to your trusted phone number. Then type your password followed by the six-digit verification code directly into the password field.

You can also go to

Settings -> iCloud -> Password & Security -> "Get Verification Code"

and simply add the number to the end of your password when you sign-in
