Unable to download item please try again later

I keep getting the error pop up that states “Unable to download Item, please try again later” options of “done or retry”.

I have researched everything I can and gone through all settings to no avail. Only I haven’t done is a full restore. I have:

  • checked App Store for updates
  • toggled automatic updates on and off
  • toggled all updates between cellular and WiFi
  • Checked music and iTunes
  • checked updates of software (running 14.7.1)
  • turned off background app refresh and turned on. Restarted phone every time

older threads talk about putting it into airplane mode when error screen pops up but that is not an option here. Only allows you to select “done or retry”

anyone have any suggestions? Experiencing the same thing? Anything? Without having to update phones.

thanks in advance

FINALLY SOLVED!! (May 2022)

Had this problem for a few months until now. Here's what to do ...

I tried a full reset, but it didn't resolver the issue. However, it brought me onto the right path.

I tried signing in with a different Apple ID - no annoying message.

So, I realised that the issue had more to do with the account than with the actual device itself.

Long story short ... I went on the chat with Apple support and asked them to check from their end whether I did in fact have any downloads pending, and asked them to clear all.

They looked into it, cleared all downloads (including updates) that were pending, et voilá! I logged in and out a few times with my Apple ID, did a restart ... no more annoying messages ever since.

I used the iMazing app to delete the suspect files and I still have the issue.. just not nearly as often. So while I can appreciate frustration on behalf of people tired of hearing “What do we do? When is Apple going to fix this?” I can also appreciate frustration on behalf of people who HAVE tried the offered solutions but are still experiencing the problem.

I’m going to dig into my phone with iMazing again and just see if there’s something I missed.

I am also getting this exact error message 4-20 times a day, for the past several months, when I haven’t initiated a download of any type. But I do know when it started so thought I would pass that along. I wanted 3-4 songs off an album in the Apple Music store, but it was cheaper to buy the album, so I did. I have auto-download turned on, so the entire album started downloading. I went through and canceled (or tried to) all the songs I didn’t want. Shortly thereafter, i started getting the “Unable to Download Item / Done / Retry” message. Maybe coincidence, but maybe it will help somebody who knows more about the code do some troubleshooting. I’ve checked (many times) and I have no pending downloads. I’ve updated all my apps and I am running iOS 15.4. I even deleted the Apple Music app and re-installed. Please somebody fix this because it seems like it’s getting worse and it always pops up at the most inconvenient moments. tia.

It's FREE - You do not have to buy the software to get rid of the issue. And why you think "THAT SEEMS TO BE THE CASE HERE" is strange considering that NO ONE has posted that imazing did not work. Try it FOR FREE and post if it didn't work before writing another unnecessary post.

"APPLE NEED TO KNOW! IF IT IS LOCKED, THEN APPLE DON’T CARE!" - This

thread dates WAAAAY back so clearly Apple doesn't care - I came to this

forum for a fix and I got it. I don't care about Apple not caring about

my problems. Waiting on Apple to help you or care about you is clearly

wasting time.

Amazing how people RESIST HELP these days...
