Why Am I Getting Duplicate Text Messages?

I started getting duplicate text messages about a week ago. That is about the same time I updated to iOS 14.7.1 - but I do not know if that is the cause. When I say duplicate text messages, I am referring to two identical text messages coming through one right after the other (I am NOT referring to a repeat notification).

Oddly, it does NOT happen with every text - even from the same sender. It does happen with messages sent from Android phones.

Since the issue started have you tested reactivating your number with iMessage or changing any SMS text message setting on your iPhone? If not, check out the article here to assist: Add or remove your phone number in Messages or FaceTime A temporarily sign out and normal restart of your iPhone may help. Restart your iPhone

Also, as SMS text messages are handled by your carrier you might want to see if the issue occurs when in a specific area with poor cellular service. You can also double-check your current cellular settings: View or change cellular data settings on iPhone
