What version of operating system are you running? What version of iMovie are you trying to update? Do you have, or have you ever had, a version of iMovie 10 on your Mac? What "required update" does the message say that you need?

I have a 2015 MacBook Air and I’m just trying to download iMovie but I can’t and I never had iMovie on this Mac and I just bought it a couple days ago and the message is saying “iMovie can’t be installed on “Macintosh HD” because macOS version 10.15.6 or later is required”
What operating system are you running? You need to upgrade or update it to 10.15.6 or later. Then you can download iMovie.
You might have an Apple I.D problem since you have a second hand computer that was bought with a different Apple I.D. than yours. But lets see what happens.
