There are multiple versions of the 24". I think they all have the headphone jack, but the ethernet is only standard on the higher end models. The website den.thed showed is pretty clear on all this.

Note that if you get a dock, like I did ( the https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/docks/owc-thunderbolt-3-dock) you don't need the goofy ethernet port in the power brick, the dock has one.

Why do they make it so hard to get a new iMac.

G'morning Frank,

Remember that Apple is not here. We are your fellow end users and have no more idea why Apple does or doesn't do things than you.

If you want something as close to your current iMac as possible I would consider the 27-inch model. However, there are some features that the upcoming version of macOS will not work on an intel-powered Mac.

If you go for an M1 24-inch in a similar config to what you have now, you need one of the two higher-specced models:

That gets you the ethernet port and four, not two, USB/Thunderbolt ports—super important.

Because RAM cannot be added after the computer leaves the factory, I strongly recommend the 16GB RAM option, That is as close to future-proofing as you can do.

Also ANY storage less that 512GB can be crippling. People here are already reporting storage space issues with Macs having 256GB storage.

i want the same one just updated with all the new features

I understand and concur. It is tough when "cutting edge" becomes a "bleeding edge."

If you get the two port (thunderbolt 3 only) iMac 24 and need ethernet, you will have to get a thunderbolt to ethernet adapter:

MD463LL

And to plug that in, the thunderbolt 2 to thunderbolt 3 adapter:

MMEL2AM

But it might be better in the long run to get the Caldigit Thunderbolt 3 port adapter:

HMX02ZM (But Apple does not have any right now)

This will get you Ethernet, USB-A and HDMI, among others

I am so confused when I bought this iMac late 2012 no issue plain and simple and lasted this long. Want the same one I have now but newer cause my hard drive is failing and very sluggish according to the etrecheck report. Takes forever to load up and slow to do backups so it showing signs of on its way out. I was so luck this lasted this long. What do you think should I should I do shut down or put it into sleep and if I shut down maybe will not boot up? If you know its going to die what would you do before a purchase of a new one. I will have to go to the store and see what i want then. But cannot afford it now i am hoping this last a little longer.

Thank you all for your help.

Do you have a Time Machine backup of the 2012 iMac?

see > https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201250

If so, then you can use that to move your user data to a new iMac.

If not, then you need to get an external drive for Time Machine before the old iMac's drive dies.

If you want/need assistants with the 2012 iMac? Then it would be best to close out this thread and start a new that is just about the 2012 iMac.

Is this the one I would need they have it in store

Apple Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter with built-in Thunderbolt cable

No do not use time machine using Western Digital 1TB for iMac. Why do they make it so hard to get a new iMac. i want the same one just updated with all the new features. I want to br able to hook up my iMac to my cable modem and use the head phone jack too.

I just cannot quit this cause I really still do not have the answer I need. I was on chat with apple they got me more confused so I figure I go here for the help like in the past this place helps me out more than ever.

Thank you all again for your help
