Macbook Air creates extra spaces between words

My Macbook Air creates extra spaces between words--it’s usually one extra space between each word but, sometimes it’s 2; sometimes it’s 3.

Initially, I thought my keyboard was dirty but, it goes away and comes back!

The problem lasts for 3-4 days, then goes away, and returns about a month later. The cycle has continued for about 6 mo.

I regularly update my computer. I think Catalina is our current OS.
