i have a new MacBook Air 2021 many attempts to get my verification code accepted have failed. Sometimes I am told to try again later. Other times the screen goes blank or there is no response. Very often it doesn’t offer a verification code. Can I force my MacBook to complete the installation of my ID ?

Are you referring to Two-Factor Authentication? If so, go here: Two-Factor Authentication for Apple ID - Apple Support. It may not be setup correctly.
