Time Machine Problem

My iMac is using macOS Catalina 10.15.7. Time Machine is (trying) to backup to an external WD 4 TB drive. I also have data saved on a WD external 500 GB drive. But since hooking up the 500 GB drive, Time Machine is failing to backup. I've attached the error message.

Any advice to fix this, please?

Copy the files off the 500GB drive using a different method, choose Utilities from the Finder's Go menu, open the Disk Utility, reformat it, and put them back.
