iPhone 12 Pro Max photos are dark and dull but videos are good

My photos turn out dark and dull while the videos are really good. I saw a previous reported problem in Feb (about 150 people also said they had the same issue), for which Apple support directed the user to the photos HDR setting. My HDR is turned on already. My husband’s and son’s same model works just fine, me compared that my camera settings are exactly the same as theirs, but no avail. I hate to have spent so much on this phone… looks like a device defect to me
