How can I disable the Siri/microphone search button on my new 2nd gen ATV 4K remote?

This button is in a terrible location. I’m touching it constantly when I pickup the remote and every time I do it takes me out of whatever app I using and into a search menu. I would like to disable this function completely. How can I do that?

Hi Walter Starks,

We're glad you've reached out for help with your Siri Remote and Apple TV. We've got a great resource to share with you.

It's possible to turn off Siri completely, so that the Siri button no longer activates. Let us know if the information in this guide helps, or if you've got any questions:

Thanks for the reply but unfortunately that doesn’t help. I normally keep Siri turned off since I don’t find it very useful. Unfortunately turning off Siri doesn’t disable the button.

If Siri is enabled pressing the button will result in an on screen prompt to hold the button and speak. This wouldn’t be too bad if the prompt had a timeout but it doesn’t. It will remain on the screen until the button is pressed again.

If Siri is disabled pressing the button will result in a search keyboard. Again, this keyboard will remain on the screen and it’s worse than the Siri prompt because exiting the search screen goes back to the home screen rather than whatever app was being used when the button press occurred.
