hundreds of random out of office emails

I tried to set up Out of Office response to emails in Rules. Now I get hundreds of emails from any random contact sending me their out of office response. It looks like: Re 28a0, or Re e57, or any other letter plus number. It blocks my emails and everything else. I deleted all rules but this still got on. How can I stop it??????

That's why your should not do that.

If available, you should set it up on your email server because they can control how often it responds and prevents responding to auto-responses.

You'll have to wait until the cycle subsides.

You may be able to limit the damage by keeping Mail Off, and access your account through the email provider's web portal. From there you can delete the responses to the responses without Mail responding.

How long does this go on? Is there really no way to stop it?

If you've disabled the rule, then it won't increase, but you have no control of what happens to a message after it leaves your computer. You might contact your email provider and ask if they can somehow minimize the problem. I don't really think so, though.

I can't imagine your email provider hasn't already disabled your account with it sending out so many emails.
