This is my 3rd iPhone 12pro so no nothing is wrong with the phone. With each of my 12 pros the iPhone screen keeps dimming and yes the brightness is set to max and auto dim is turned off… again I repeat, Brightness is set to max and auto dim is TURNED OFF. But the iPhone will randomly dim the screen about 50% to the point where I cannot see anything in the sun at all… again the brightness shows full. What is going on? Anyone else have this problem??

As noted in the article "True Tone, which is on by default, uses advanced sensors to adjust the color and intensity of your display to match the ambient light, so that images appear more natural.
If you turn off True Tone, the display keeps color and intensity constant, regardless of changes in the ambient light."

No case and no screen protector on. This is a brand new phone that’s 3 weeks old, but the same thing happened to my other 12pros as well. I think this is a software issue causing the screen to dim that low. This is esp noticeable when I am outside and it’s hot out, that’s mostly when the screen dims that low.
Hi Phillip, I’m pretty sure this is something that happens to many people and does raise a lot of confusion, I personally have had it happen to my iPhone Xs a few times, and every time it has happened the phone was exposed to high temperatures. To elaborate, the first time was when I was using the phone for a long period of time in direct sunlight whilst it was on charge in the car, the screen was almost too hot to touch and it dimmed it. The second time was when I was at home, using the 30W charger to fast charge my phone, whilst streaming music and using mobile data (since my wifi was down) and the screen dimmed, i felt the back and front and it was extremely hot. So I think the sudden screen dimming is just a safety feature that the phone will automatically do when it gets too hot.
True Tone and nightshift are also both off. This is not a settings issue. I think it’s a software issue causing the phones brightness to drop half way even though brightness still shows max.
