Memoji/Animoji Not Working

Hi!

It’s only been a day since I upgraded to an iPhone 11 from an iPhone 7 Plus. I used Memoji a couple of times while my new iPhone was restoring from a backup and everything was fine. Now the restoration has been completed after almost 8 hours, but my Memoji and Animoji doesn’t work now.

I followed other solutions such as checking for lighting, updating software etc but everything seems to be fine. I just see “Tap to resume” or “Facetracking failed. Tap to retry”.

Can someone help me? I’ve finally set up the phone after hours, it’s a bit frustrating when something was once working and isn’t now.

Any advice would be helpful, thanks in advance!

Hi Anan22,

We see you’re having an issue with face tracking for Memoji and Animoji.

To clarify, can you use Face ID to unlock the device or take a Portrait mode selfie without any issues? If not, go through the steps in this link and see if it helps:

If Face ID isn't working on your iPhone or iPad Pro

If you can still use Face ID without issue, make sure your iPhone is up to date:

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Thanks for writing!

My Face ID seems to be working fine so far. I can take pictures in portrait mode as well. My iPhone is also up to date.

I restarted my iPhone, which seemed to temporarily fix the issue but it keeps coming back after. I either have to close the iMessage app or restart the iPhone for Memoji & Animoji to work.

Is there anything else I can try?
