I want to buy a new macbook pro-13” but am not sure how to attach my portable disc drives to transfer information. I looked it up but the info might as well have been in another language.

The new MBPro has USB-C female connectors that will require external drives to have the same USB-C Male connectors. That or have to purchase an adapter that has a USB-C Male connector with a USB-A Female connector on it for the older external drive with USB-A connectors . The most trouble free way to move to a new machine, is using the Setup Assistant on the initial boot of a brand new machine— you have one shot here. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205749
If that opportunity has past, the second best way is use the Migration Assistant.
