4. Boot Up: the Mac
5. Log In: to the same user
6. Plug In: the drive
7. See if it is now see.

Plug it in and then choose Computer from the Finder's Go menu. If its preferences are set to show external drives in the desktop or sidebar, it can be opened from there as well.
