Audio Clicking added

Running 10.2.5. on iMac iOS 11.3. After making a video on iphone 12 pro max, i watched the unedited version on my iMac using Quicktime. Sound was excellent. Imported into iMovie, played in the timeline and distinct clicking or popping (i.e. clipping) can be heard. The peaks in the audio track are all well below the yellow but even when I artificially raise the volume, the clicks don’t correspond to the peaks. I’ve checked this with other videos. This is a new problem. Was iMovie updated recently?

iMovie 10.2.5 is the current version.

There should be a spike in the wave form at the points where the clicking occurs. As a workaround you could cut the click points out. Also, try exporting the movie and see if the clicking is eliminated in the final product.

Also, try deleting preferences and see if that cures the problem. To delete preferences open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects.  Deleting preferences is a safe procedure that will not cause data loss or disruption to your project.

If you still get the clicking after deleting preferences, try converting a duplicate of the clip with the free download Handbrake. Convert the clip to H.264, Mp4/AAC. Do that even if the codec already is indicated to be Mp4/AAC. Re-rendering often cures the issue.

You can get Handbrake here:

A simple way to do it is to open Handbrake and do a File/Open Source. Navigate to your video and choose it as the source from the resulting screen. Then do File/Start Encoding. Wait a couple of minutes for the conversion to complete. Then save and import the converted clip into iMovie.
