Eye strain from iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020) and iPhone 12

I thought I was going crazy, but after doing a bit of research online it seems like I'm not the only one with severe eye strain from their computer / phone.

For the last 6 months my life has changed dramatically, I have worked as a graphic designer since 2000 and I have never had any eye problems. I don't wear glasses and have been to all the treatments you can imagine, including eye steroids (seriously not fun). So hearing the advise that you must have a health problem and need to see a professionel - it just hurts. I want to cry every day, I can't do my job and I'm seriously considering that I have to change career :(

It all started when I got my new iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020) and iPhone 12 just after Christmas. I thought it was all to do with the new office I was sitting in, but it can't be, because after working from home, I still have the same problems.

All I want to know is, which computer can I buy that will not give me eye strain, but can still run all the Adobe programs, that I need for my job??? I love Apple, but if this is the future, then I really don't know what to do!!!!

If I had to guess, it may have to do with the OLED display used on the iPhone 12 models. I have noted that some folks are stating the same as you that they are experiencing different levels of eye strain. However, this does not address your 2020 iMac. AFAIK, it does not use an OLED display. Maybe just using your iPhone alone may be problematic for you ... and the strain is coincidental with your iMac.
