Magic Keyboard Touch ID not Working

Just bought the new Magic Keyboard with the built in Touch ID. I set up the keyboard but I can't get the Touch ID to work on the keyboard. I went through the Touch ID set up process in System Preferences and still no luck. Also plugged the keyboard directly into the computer and still no luck. Any suggestions?


Currently using 2020 MacBook Pro with latest Big Sur update.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.5

Intel Mac?

Try resetting the SMC http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964


Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379




M1 Mac?

M1 SoC - SMC reset equivalent is Shut down, close the lid 30 secs+ , reboot as normal


no resolve—Try a SafeBoot https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262
